Short Film Friday: 9 Days – From My Window in Aleppo

By Sonaksha Iyengar

One morning in August 2012, Aleppo, Syria based photographer and curator Issa Touma woke up to young men with guns and sandbags rushing into his street. He grabbed his camera and continued to sit by the window for nine days, filming what turned out to be the initial days of the Syrian uprising in the city of Aleppo. In 2016, Touma worked closely with filmmakers Floor van der Meulen and Thomas Vroege on turning the footage into a poignant and gripping short documentary that went on to win the Best Short at the European Film Awards.

You can follow Issa Touma here, and read more about his experience and the documentary in his interview with Creators.
